Michael Ryan James (a.k.a. Big Red) was born in Frankfurt, Germany on February 27, 1981. His father was in the U.S. Army and stationed overseas, so he grew up a little bit of everywhere. He graduated from Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Faulkner University in 2004. He is the full time Physical Education teacher at Woodmeade Elementary school in Decatur. He has worked with the Church at Flint since the summer of 2001, when he was hired as a youth intern. He continued in that position for several years, finally becoming the youth minister in the fall of 2004.
Big Red married Patti Reed in 2007. She is a Spanish teacher at Decatur High School. They have one daughter, Emma, and a miniature schnauzer named Rupp. Big Red is an avid sports fan --cheering relentlessly for the University of Kentucky. He also loves basketball, reading, chess, and nerdy computer games.
Big Red strives to dispel the myth that Christianity and fun cannot go together. He loves to teach from God’s word and enjoys relating to and learning from all the different personalities that make up the awesome youth group at Flint.

Jeff Holmes
Jeff Holmes was born and raised in Decatur, but now lives in Madison. He graduated from Decatur High in 1990. He has been a member at Flint since the early Nineties. He brought his family with him and they have been members here for almost twenty years as well.
Jeff met his wife, Kristina in 1999 and they were married later that year. They have two sons, Tristan and Brett. Even though he and his family live over twenty miles away, he feels that Flint is a great place for his family to worship and fellowship. His wife is also the secretary for Flint.
He has an Associates Degree in Electrical Technology from Calhoun Community College and is employed by Snyder Technical Services. He works on Redstone Arsenal developing and programming for first-stage testing on valves and various machinery used on space exploration vehicles. It's no wonder he is the Deacon over Technology - or Geek Deac - as he is lovingly called.
